hawaii-based engineering firm:
For years I served as lead freelance patternmaker and sample sewist for cooling vests designed for military and industrial applications for Oceanit. The high-quality patterns and samples I created for this project outperformed expectations at every stage and led to continued SBIR funding of close to $3 million, currently slated in 2023 for field trials and physiological tests.
I worked as part of a team of scientists and engineers to not only create a product with aesthetic appeal, but I also pattern made a garment that “delivers 3x the body heat extraction of market-leading cooling garments.”

The COOLING VEST: 19°N Hawaii
Founded in Hawai’i in 1985, Oceanit is a “mind to market” company that creates disruptive technology from fundamental science. Oceanit remains headquartered in Honolulu, Hawai’i and from the islands, they practice the unique discipline of Intellectual Anarchy: re-imagining innovation to break the bonds of normal and solve the impossible- delivering technologies to the market that impact humans and society.

These samples are sewn with the highest care & quality.
The tubing is sewn with a tolerance of +/- 3mm.
Otherwise the needle can damage the tubing and render the sample useless.
Of the 50 full samples I’ve sewn, I’ve nicked only 1 tube on 1 garment.
