working one-on-one with a bridal tailor

I work very closely with my bridal clients to create a unique and custom alterations experience. As a technical tailor, I customize bridal gowns, including removing or adding a new sleeve- or even changing the shape of a silhouette- so all my clients receive a custom dress made only for them.

I can even revamp vintage wedding dresses and make them new for your special day! For every bridal dress I work on, I treasure and cherish each gown as if it’s my own.

Here is a look into my custom bridal tailoring process:

a custom and complimentary first fitting

All clients will start with a complimentary fitting at my alterations studio. You’ll receive a complimentary one-on-one appointment with me, a bridal technical tailor, with no pressure to continue. For this first fitting, I’ll explain which alterations need to be done and together we can go over all customization options to create the wedding dress of your dreams. For all fittings you’ll have your own private bathroom and dressing room.

My busy season is typically February- September, and the number of brides and projects I can take on is limited. I recommend scheduling a complimentary consultation 3-4 months in advance to secure your place on my calendar.

a personal proposal

After the complimentary fitting, prospective brides will receive a bridal proposal via email created only for them, generally within 1-3 days of their initial fitting. This estimate will detail my pricing, services and timeline, along with any and all customization options. I work very closely with my clients and am always available to answer any questions or concerns you may have during this process. I want my bridal process to be easy, stress-free and fun for everyone!

The Fitting Process

Depending on how much work needs to be done, bridal clients generally have 3 fittings total, usually 2-3 months before your wedding. For more extensive wedding alterations, such as revamping a vintage wedding dress, more than 3 fittings may be required over a period of 4-6 months. Your last fitting will normally be about 2 weeks before your wedding. I like to tailor gowns closer to my clients’ wedding dates, so your dress will have second-skin, made-to-measure fit.

Once I’m hired as your tailor, I will send over a simple contract to review, and provide details to pay the 20% deposit. This deposit allows me to turn down other prospective brides and get to work on tailoring the dress of your dreams!

I ordered a custom gown online, and when I received it, I was very disappointed. Lizzy altered my dress and changed the shape of the bodice to something I really love. Lizzy, thank you so, so much! My dress really stole the show.

The White Gloves Experience

Leaving your gorgeous bridal gown with a tailor can be quite scary! I take this work very seriously and take all precautions to ensure your dress is altered to perfection and stays in original condition. Before all fittings, and especially bridal, the alterations studio and dressing room is thoroughly cleaned and vacuumed. Before sewing your gown, I’ll clean out underneath the bobbin case and inside all sewing machinery to ensure all machinery is as clean as possible. For delicate bridal and special occasion, I even wear white gloves whilst sewing and handling your dress to ensure the oils from my skin do not touch your dress.

Alterations before & after

I’ve worked with some incredible clients on very technical bridal and special occasion gowns. Here some of my favorite before and afters:

the studio

I’m a Mom that works out of my home, to ensure work-life balance and to give the most competitive pricing I can. My studio may be small, however I’m equipped with all the high-quality machinery necessary to create and sew all bridal and special-occasion gowns and offer an extensive level of finishes. I use a professional iron and vacuum board for the most pristine finishes possible.

“Lizzy is amazing! She takes the time to work with you on your vision of a dress and makes it perfection! So thankful to have found her in my search for wedding dress alterations.”

- Katie, Bridal Client

  • Currently I am scheduling brides about 2-6 months in advance of their wedding dates, depending on the extent of the alteration needed. Feel free to text or give me a call to discuss your unique gown and one-of-a-kind wedding.

  • My experience in lace and bridal stems from interning for renowned British fashion designer Erdem. At Erdem I honed my craft and learned an incredible amount about tailoring, sewing and patternmaking womenswear, specifically hand sewing and semi-couture clothing techniques I still use to this day. I was the first intern in the company’s then history to sew clothing for the runways at London Fashion Week. I work locally with Denver brides to give them the dress of their dreams. This includes bridal garment restoration, creating accessories, and even reconstructing bridal that was sewn incorrectly during manufacturing.

  • I am located in Jackson Farms, near Smoky Hill Library, at 18921 E. Belleview Place Centennial, CO 80015.

For fittings, I normally schedule these Saturday, Sunday and Tuesdays. Feel free to get in touch anytime to schedule a complimentary fitting. I’m happy to work with your unique scheduling needs.

  • Yes! As a sustainable patternmaker, I use an array of hand and sewing techniques to make your dress like new. I’m very honest about what I can and cannot fix, and I’ve even had brides be able to sell their wedding dresses after I’ve restored them.

I love working with vintage dresses that have a story and making them modern for your big day.

  • If you have purchased a sample dress that needs restoration, I can usually restore these to their formal glory, so you can save money on your dream gown. If you are thinking of purchasing a sample dress, please text pictures of any flaws and the overall silhouette of this dress, and I can tell you what I can and cannot fix. (720) 815-6707.

  • Pricing for bridal alterations really depends on the amount of work and customization you are looking for. I have been told by other clients that my bridal and tailoring services are competitive.
